CROWNS

The crown placed on your child's tooth today is secured with a fluoride-containing dental cement. This cement takes around 12 hours to reach its final setting. We recommend a soft diet for the rest of the day. Crowns may become dislodged if your child consumes sticky candies or fruit snacks. For white crowns, please try to avoid giving your child hard foods and candies, such as Jolly Ranchers and almonds, as these may cause the crown to break and necessitate replacement. Adapting to the new crown, especially the bite, typically takes about a week or two for it to feel back to “normal.”

Following the appointment, your child's gums may appear red and irritated, with minor bleeding being normal. These symptoms should subside within a few days with proper oral hygiene at home. Make sure to maintain regular brushing and flossing around the crown. You can administer over-the-counter children's Ibuprofen in the appropriate dose for your child if needed. Sensitivity is generally limited to the soft tissue around the gums. However, if your child is still having difficulty eating, biting, or chewing after a week, please contact us.
